ISS UK and Ireland confirms new Net-Zero commitment for 2030

In the lead up to the G7 summit, and with the new strategy in place, ISS will demonstrate that the journey to a low carbon future is within reach of all organisations – for both ISS and to support our customers’ journeys on their own transitions to Net-Zero.

Liz Benison, CEO, ISS UK & Ireland stated: “At ISS in the UK & Ireland, we have made great progress in delivering energy efficiency and reducing carbon emissions both for our own organisation and for our customers. We in facilities management must however lead by example and do more. Therefore, to achieve Net-Zero for our own emissions is our next responsible action and is aligned with the global strategy for ISS worldwide. The future is in our hands as we continue to connect people with places to make the world work better.”

ISS UK & Ireland Scope 1 & 2 Net-Zero targets for 2030

ISS UK & Ireland anticipates achieving Net-Zero on its 2019 baseline by initiating the following key actions:

• Company cars will be all electric or hydrogen by the end of 2025 (the new policy for UK & Ireland will be launched by Q3 2021) 
• All commercial vehicles will be electric or hydrogen by 2030
• Review all heating/cooling/energy consuming systems in our offices in order to optimise performance and create energy saving opportunities 
• Continue procurement of renewable electricity 

The Net-Zero strategy for ISS UK & Ireland will also address other actions to minimise carbon emissions and offsetting any residual emissions will be a last resort in order to achieve a Net-Zero footprint.

The Net-Zero future 

ISS UK & Ireland has begun the identification and measurement of scope 3 emissions and are committed to establishing a baseline for all categories by 2022. With this in place, ISS can set further action plans, reduction targets and align targets at a global level to ensure we reach our goal as a global organisation.

The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) drives ambitious climate action in the private sector by enabling companies to set science-based emissions reduction targets; at ISS, we support clients in both the private and public sector in their commitment to SBTi. The Net-Zero targets are for all UK & Ireland properties owned or leased by ISS and all vehicles in the company fleet. By necessity, this does however exclude franchise network premises and hosted space on client sites.
