Operating responsibly in a changing world
The environments where people work, learn, heal and produce also shape our impact on the planet.
At ISS, we are committed to reducing the environmental footprint of our operations while helping organisations transition to more sustainable workplaces. Through practical actions across energy, resources and supply chains, we focus on measurable improvements that support both environmental progress and operational performance
Championing sustainable workplaces
Our Director of Sustainability sets out the three capabilities that shape our approach at ISS — embedding sustainability in our own operations with clear commitments, equipping our teams on site to put it into practice every day, and supporting customers to deliver their own sustainability objectives.
Our environmental priorities
ISS is committed to reducing environmental impact across operations and value chains through climate action, energy efficiency, resource management and responsible service delivery.
ISS is committed to achieving net-zero emissions across our value chain by 2040, aligned with science-based targets. We are reducing emissions through initiatives including transitioning to renewable electricity, electrifying our fleet, improving energy efficiency in the buildings we operate, and working with suppliers to reduce value-chain emissions.
Buildings account for a significant proportion of global energy use and carbon emissions. Because ISS teams operate within workplaces every day, we are uniquely positioned to identify opportunities to improve building performance — from optimising energy consumption to improving asset efficiency and reducing operational waste.
ISS works continuously to reduce waste and improve resource efficiency across our operations. Through responsible procurement, recycling initiatives and waste reduction programmes, we aim to minimise environmental impact while supporting more circular approaches to resource use.
Environmental responsibility is integrated into the way ISS delivers services across cleaning, technical services, workplace services and food. From sustainable materials and responsible sourcing to improved operational practices, our teams continuously seek opportunities to reduce environmental impact.
OUR COMMITMENTS
ISS is committed to achieving net-zero emissions across our value chain by 2040, aligned with science-based targets and operational insight into workplace performance.

Supporting sustainable workplaces
The workplace is where organisations consume the majority of their operational energy and resources.
By combining operational expertise with sustainability insight, ISS helps create environments that are more energy-efficient, resource-efficient and resilient — supporting organisations in meeting their environmental goals while maintaining high-performing workplaces.
Because creating better workplaces for people also means protecting the environment they depend on.
Navigating an era of energy volatility
Energy is not just as a fixed overhead, but a strategic variable — one that can be measured, managed, and controlled. We help organisations navigate continued price volatility through three practical levers:
-
Strategic procurement and assurance
-
Disciplined energy management
-
Aligning every operational fix with a credible Net Zero roadmap.
From sub-metering and peak shaving to on-site generation and ESOS-aligned audits, we turn volatility into advantage — cutting costs today while building resilience for tomorrow.
