ISS celebrates second anniversary of the IWFM Veterans in FM Network

ISS, a leading workplace experience and facilities management company, joined the military community at a special event in London to celebrate the second anniversary of the IWFM Veterans in FM Network — the professional community helping veterans and service leavers build careers in facilities management.

Launched in 2023, the IWFM Veterans in FM Network exists to help showcase FM as a genuine career of choice for the military community, rather than somewhere people simply end up. As the Network’s marketing sponsor for 2026, ISS is proud to advocate on behalf of the military community, championing those leaving service who bring transferable skills, work ethic and leadership into the sector.

At the event on June 18, speakers included Network Chair Louisa Clarke; ISS UK & Ireland Chief Operating Officer Martin Burholt; JointForces@ISS alumnus Elliott Weaver and serving reservist Kamaldeep Sandhu, whose experiences brought the programme to life; senior addresses from Major General (Retd) Seumas Kerr CBE and Air Vice-Marshal Simon Edwards CB; and a closing from Nikki Scott, founder of Scotty’s Little Soldiers, the incredible charity dedicated to supporting bereaved children who have lost a parent in service.

ISS has been represented on the Network’s committee since its launch in 2023. Through its award-winning JointForces@ISS programme, ISS has helped hundreds of service leavers, veterans, reservists and military spouses move into rewarding, long-term careers in FM since the programme launched in 2017.

Speaking at the event, Martin Burholt, Chief Operating Officer for ISS UK & Ireland, said: “At ISS, we’re proud to be headline sponsor of the Network’s second anniversary and to stand alongside the military community. Helping people build careers in facilities management isn’t a gesture for us; it’s simply good business, and absolutely the right thing to do. The discipline, leadership and teamwork that people carry over from service are exactly what our sector needs, and through our JointForces@ISS programme we see that borne out every day.”

Andrew Ingham, committee member of the IWFM Veterans in FM Network and Operations Director at ISS, said: “Two years ago we set out to make FM a genuine career of choice for the military community, not somewhere people simply end up. The room on the night told the story — service leavers, veterans, reservists and families at every stage of that journey, the employers backing them, and partners like Scotty’s Little Soldiers reminding us why it matters. There is more to do, but the Network has proved its worth.”
