Before becoming ISS Technical Services in January 2015, the business was previously known as GSH Group.
GSH Group was founded in 1895 servicing the thriving pottery industry in Stoke-on-Trent. The business quickly expanded into an advanced engineering firm surviving two world wars and dramatic changes in the economy to emerge as pioneers in the new and expanding field of professionally managed facilities.
In 1955 the company had its first vehicle fleet and the introduced its company pension. In 1969 the maintenance division was developed being one of the first to offer a 24 hour call-out service to corporate customers. In 1972, GSH Group had established itself as a national business with the award of its first contract in Ireland and the opening of a London office, closely followed by branches in Glasgow and Edinburgh.
GSH set the precedent for the industry in 1985 by introducing documented quality and control procedures. This set GSH apart from the other maintenance organisations at the time and continues to be an important part of the foundation of our business today. The business then began a programme of international expansion in the early 1990’s when we established a presence in the Netherlands in 1992.
GSH’s revolutionary energy services also emerged in the 1990’s and continued to evolve, collecting numerous awards along the way. The most recent of these was in October 2013 which was the prestigious BIFM Award for Excellence in Product Development. This recognises the unique qualities and benefits associated with our EMAP energy management software.
When entering into its 120th year GSH Group UK was acquired by ISS UK. The acquisition strengthens ISS’ technical capability in engineering which was already truly impressive with over 1,000 engineers.
Speaking of the acquisition, Clive Clarke, GSH Group UK Managing Director states, “This is an absolutely perfect fit for our business and provides a huge opportunity for all our staff. It will boost our technical engineering self-delivery within specialist hard services and total facility management contracts. ISS and GSH, working together for mutual benefit, will provide greater opportunities for colleagues to develop their career paths.”
Richard Sykes, ISS UK and Ireland CEO comments, “This is a strategic acquisition by ISS and will further enhance our technical capabilities both in the UK and by acting as a springboard to enhance our European expertise. At the same time, it creates a market leading business in its own right. Our business has been extremely successful in growing our integrated solutions offering to our customers and this acquisition strengthens this solution even further.”
