We were recently awarded the *British Safety Council ‘International Safety Award 2014’ gaining an impressive but well-deserved 100% score. We were 1 of only 43 companies to gain a distinction which demonstrates our absolute commitment to safe working and positions us amongst the best health and safety practitioners within the facilities maintenance industry.

The British Safety Council commented:

“On behalf of the Trustees and staff of the British Safety Council we warmly congratulate GSH (now ISS Technical Services) and its employees on gaining an International Safety Award with distinction. All of those working at GSH have made this award possible which recognises their dedication and commitment in preventing injury and ill health in the workplace. It was also apparent that applicants recognise that getting health and safety right is a business enabler.”

Other recent awards include the *BIFM ‘Excellence in Product Development’ won in October 2013 for EMAP (Energy Monitoring Application). Described as a “pioneering project” by the BIFM judges, the award recognises that we have created a one-of-a-kind product in EMAP, which saves both time and energy for our .

The BIFM judges commented:

"Many organisations state that they deliver energy-led maintenance solutions, but GSH (now ISS Technical Services) has developed a system that actually delivers on the promise. It has a great future and we genuinely believe this is a market-leading solution.”

We are proud of each and every award and will continue to strive for excellence in everything we do.

Before becoming ISS Technical Services in January 2015, the business was previously known as GSH Group.

GSH Group was founded in 1895 servicing the thriving pottery industry in Stoke-on-Trent. The business quickly expanded into an advanced engineering firm surviving two world wars and dramatic changes in the economy to emerge as pioneers in the new and expanding field of professionally managed facilities.

In 1955 the company had its first vehicle fleet and the introduced its company pension. In 1969 the maintenance division was developed being one of the first to offer a 24 hour call-out service to corporate customers. In 1972, GSH Group had established itself as a national business with the award of its first contract in Ireland and the opening of a London office, closely followed by branches in Glasgow and Edinburgh.

GSH set the precedent for the industry in 1985 by introducing documented quality and control procedures. This set GSH apart from the other maintenance organisations at the time and continues to be an important part of the foundation of our business today. The business then began a programme of international expansion in the early 1990’s when we established a presence in the Netherlands in 1992.

GSH’s revolutionary energy services also emerged in the 1990’s and continued to evolve, collecting numerous awards along the way. The most recent of these was in October 2013 which was the prestigious BIFM Award for Excellence in Product Development. This recognises the unique qualities and benefits associated with our EMAP energy management software.

When entering into its 120th year GSH Group UK was acquired by ISS UK. The acquisition strengthens ISS’ technical capability in engineering which was already truly impressive with over 1,000 engineers.

Speaking of the acquisition, Clive Clarke, GSH Group UK Managing Director states, “This is an absolutely perfect fit for our business and provides a huge opportunity for all our staff. It will boost our technical engineering self-delivery within specialist hard services and total facility management contracts. ISS and GSH, working together for mutual benefit, will provide greater opportunities for colleagues to develop their career paths.

Richard Sykes, ISS UK and Ireland CEO comments, “This is a strategic acquisition by ISS and will further enhance our technical capabilities both in the UK and by acting as a springboard to enhance our European expertise. At the same time, it creates a market leading business in its own right. Our business has been extremely successful in growing our integrated solutions offering to our customers and this acquisition strengthens this solution even further.”
