Award-Winning Energy Savings at Fujitsu - supported by ISS

Green Apple 8-inset 464x207
Partner solution helps client deliver 66% saving in energy consumption
ISS Facility Services is celebrating the success of a collaborative energy award achieved for Fujitsu. The Green Apple Awards ceremony was held at the Houses of Parliament on Monday, 16 November 2015. Fujitsu’s Manchester Campus and Facilities team were awarded the Bronze Award, for Best Environmental Practice for Commerce and Industry.

ISS worked collaboratively with strategic partners Smart Controls Group to identify ways Fujitsu could make reductions in energy consumption, which would lead to large cost savings and a reduction of CO2 emissions.

The work on the three buildings at the Manchester Campus impressed the Apple Awards judging panel. This achievement was possible thanks to the work done on the Variable Speed Drive (VSD) installation project at the Manchester Campus. The newly installed VSDs vary the output of the air handling units to meet daily requirements, rather than constantly operating at full capacity.

The goal was to achieve 50% in energy consumption reduction, equating to 144,540 kWh and therefore decreasing the CO2 output by a huge 107 tons per year. What ISS and Smart Controls were able to deliver was a 66% saving on energy consumption.

This equates in to monetary savings of more than £20,000 and over 107 tons of CO2 annually.

Glenn McMahon, Facilities Manager at Technical Services commented on our award “This is a just one example of how Facilities Managers work in Partnerships with our client’s operational objectives in mind and look to exceed their expectations. The partner organisations involved in this project had one focus, to deliver cost and carbon reduction to the Fujitsu Campus. I think that winning this Apple Award is an acknowledgement of ISS’s desire to align with Fujitsu’s strategic Energy reduction goals.”

Joanne McIntyre, the Facilities Manager at Fujitsu UK’s Manchester Campus commented, “We’re proud to have won a Bronze Apple Award at this year’s Green Apple Awards ceremony. We take our responsibility to the environment very seriously and this project has been very simple but highly effective in reducing our energy consumption. Fujitsu believes its products and services can transform society, and where better to start than with our own buildings.”
