Fawn O’Brien, Key Account Portfolio Director, ISS Healthcare discusses her inspiring journey with ISS

fawn's first role

A part-time role at university

Fawn Joined ISS in December 2009 in a junior support role for the mobilisation of the Royal Derby Hospital contract. The role was due to last a couple of weeks over the Christmas period whilst Fawn was studying at University in Liverpool. However, the role developed and Fawn remained on the contract for a year whilst also starting a role as a cleaner at the Royal Liverpool Hospital. Fawn really enjoyed working as part of both teams and decided to explore a longer term career with ISS by applying for the trainee management Graduate programme when she finished university in 2012.

Progressing in our Healthcare business

Since 2012, Fawn has worked in a number of Healthcare contracts, starting her first role as an Assistant Private Patients Manager role at the Imperial Contract. She subsequently moved in to Patient Services Manager and then Contract Manager at Harefield Hospital, General Manager at West Middlesex University Hospital and in January 2020 she was appointed Key Account Director for Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust (LGT) as part of a new 10 year contract and led the team through the unprecedented challenges of the pandemic. Just over a year later, Fawn was promoted to the role of Account Portfolio Director.

It is an absolute privilege to work in Healthcare and lead my team. Over the past few years particularly with the relentless challenges of Covid-19, they have reminded me on a daily basis how dedicated and committed they are. Hundreds of ISS Placemakers can have a good or bad day based on the decisions my management team and I make, and this is a responsibility that I don’t take lightly.

Fawn went on to discuss how she gains strong support from the Senior Leadership team in ISS who have encouraged her throughout her career at ISS.

“The Senior team have inspired me to continue to develop and to have the opportunity to progress from a junior role to an Account Portfolio Director.  The support provided allowed me to grow in confidence but also has given me autonomy to manage my contracts and to develop my own leadership style.”

Fawn is really proud to work for ISS Healthcare and believes the best thing about the organisation is its people.

“I am incredibly proud of my team and colleagues at the hospitals in my portfolio, but also the wider Healthcare team. It has been a relentless few years but we have got through it by working together”

Fawn feels that ISS “offers an incredible opportunity for growth and development”; she feels that “if you want to develop, you exhibit the right behaviours and attitudes, you will have the chance to grow within the business”.

Fawn’s career with ISS has certainly demonstrated the opportunities for growth and development that are available in the organisation.
