Providing choice through payroll giving

We give every employee the opportunity to donate to charities of their choice through payroll giving. This provides an alternative and tax-efficient means for them to support causes that are important to them, beyond our organised fundraising and volunteering activities. Each year, we have a payroll giving month as part of our fundraising calendar to sign up new employees to the scheme. In 2016, we contributed £12,000 to 56 charities through our payroll giving scheme.

One Water and our commitment to ethical drinks

In March 2016, we launched a new partnership with One Water to sell their bottled water and juiced water drinks at our customers’ retail outlets on healthcare, education and defence sites around the country. We have replaced conventional bottled water at these sites and 100% of the profits from sales of One Water drinks are reinvested into water and sanitation projects in Malawi, Kenya, Lesotho and other parts of southern Africa. With an estimated 663 million people around the world still without access to safe drinking water, we’re delighted that this simple product switch is having such a positive impact on communities in Africa. Importantly, our customers’ employees supported this switch and we noticed that sales of bottled water actually increased across our retail outlets last year. By the end of 2016, we had raised £32,000 for One Water, enabling them to support over 2,000 people in Malawi with water and sanitation projects.

Duncan Goose, Founder and Managing Director of One Water, commented: “We think the team at ISS are all heroes for helping us to give clean water to those most in need.  There are still 663 million people in the world without access to safe drinking water. Over two million people die every year from waterborne diseases and most are children under five years old. By selling One drinks, ISS and their customers are helping us to make a real difference on the other side of the world. It’s that simple.”
