Homage to Le Nôtre (2000)

Marking the 300th anniversary of the death of Andre Le Nôtre, gardener to Louis XIV, this garden aims to capture the spirit of his genius. Co sponsored by our sister company crocus.co.uk for the Garden History Society, it contains a labyrinth of box hedging with water fountains and gravel pits. There is also a canal of still and reflective water edged with flowerbeds and a large angled mirror at the back of the garden creating the illusion of infinite space.

Evolution (2000)

Hedging 'clouds' enclose a dramatic garden where water fountains represent the passage of time. A 'Persian carpet' of perennials including Astrantia major 'Claret' and grasses such as Deschampsia cespitosa 'Goldtau' complete the scene.

The Laurent-Perrier Garden (2003)

The single simple architectural element is a slate wall made up of thousands of small pieces of slate. The planting comprises distinct layers of woodland and semi-shade tolerant perennials. A lily pool is cut into the slate terrace, and this incision is repeated, on a smaller scale, as a smooth recess in the slate wall (the right size for a bottle of champagne and accompanying glasses).
