ISS Enter Education Sector
ISS
has entered a new sector, the education market, with the acquisition of the well
respected catering business Caterhouse.
Established in 1993, Caterhouse
prepares mid-day lunches for over 40,000 children a day in over 200 schools in
London
and the South-East. This new business will fit nicely with ISS Mediclean’s
recently announced BSF (Building Schools for the Future) project in
Bristol.
As
a company they take their responsibilities seriously and make a positive
contribution to both the “Every Child Matters” agenda and the
“Healthy Schools Award”.
Caterhouse
supports schools in their pursuit of the Healthy Schools Award through their
commitment to healthier eating. They organise regular food tasting sessions with
their client schools to help stimulate interest and understanding for both
children and parents. In many schools they offer healthy options for breakfast
clubs and supplementary items like fruit, pure juices and milk
drinks.
They
were one of the first commercial organisations to invest in NUTMEG
(Nutritional Analysis Software), using this computer programme to plan all
their menus to ensure an appropriate balance of nutrients. As a result their
Primary school menus meet the new Government standards in full - two years ahead
of the 2008 deadline for nutrient based standards.
Caterhouse
genuinely cares about the nutritional value of food being served to pupils
and recognise the need to work together with schools, parents and officers
of the various Councils to change our children’s patterns of eating so that they
can look forward to a healthy future.
The unique Caterhouse cashless
system for Primary pupils ensures that children eat a nutritious meal rather
than spend their money on junk food or other things!
Health
experts agree that the future wellbeing of today’s generation of children is
dependent on radical changes to their eating habits. By opting for a Caterhouse
school lunch for their children, parents will be making a positive contribution
towards their children’s future health.
Caterhouse
currently employ around 850 people in the various school contracts, believing in
the principle of freshly cooked food at every service.
