Raisin the Bar in School Catering
ISS Caterhouse has won the 2009 Healthy Schools’ Caterer Award for Primary Schools sponsored by California Raisins.
The prize includes a trip to attend the School Nutrition Annual Conference in July, which this year will be held in Las Vegas. The business will be represented by Divisional Director, Mark Davies.
The entry for the competition was based upon the imaginative use of raisins on the school menus, including main meals, salads and desserts as well as making them available as snacks throughout the day. The judges praised ISS Caterhouse for their commitment to good quality food, dedication, training, innovation and getting the children involved.
Fruit and vegetables are key to a healthier lifestyle. Currently average fruit and vegetable consumption in England is estimated to be less than 3 portions a day. One heaped tablespoon of raisin counts as one of your 5 daily fruit portions.
Mark will be representing ISS at the School Nutrition Association’s premier event, which is the largest and most important annual gathering for the K-12 school nutrition profession in the United States, although they entertain representatives from across the World. The conference is designed to put a spotlight on innovative ideas and solutions, allowing ISS Caterhouse to be the first in the UK to introduce new ideas.
After four learning-packed and networking-filled days, Mark will bring home the best thinking in school nutrition!
Whilst only Mark will be taking the trip everyone at Northolt helped celebrate the award and are pictured here with their award certificate.
