ISS Eaton and ISS Mediclean have shown their support for the Food Standards Agency (FSA) by publicly stating their commitment to providing healthier catering within the workplace. The companies have set out how they will provide healthier foods that are lower in salt, saturated fat and sugar.
For many people, the food they eat in the workplace forms a large proportion of the food they eat away from home. Around three million meals are eaten at work every day, two million of which are prepared by contract caterers.
The Agency has worked closely with the largest catering companies operating in the business and industry sector in the UK, and have published their voluntary commitments to practical changes that will deliver benefits to consumers eating at work throughout the country. This will result in positive changes to the 1.5 million meals served by these companies in the workplace every day, and around the same number again in other settings.
ISS Mediclean is one of the largest caterers supplying the NHS, whilst ISS Eaton provide staff restaurants, hospitality and fine dining for the Business and Industry sector.
Lauren Bowen , Head of Nutrition and Dietetics at ISS commented:
The FSA asked us to make a series of ‘healthy commitments’ as well as share our future plans in the key areas of procurement, kitchen practice, menu planning and customer information; all of which contribute to the FSA’s work to promote healthy eating, as well as the Department of Health’s recently published Obesity Strategy: Healthy Weight, Healthy Lives.
Nutrition is high on the agenda at ISS Mediclean evident in the company’s Food and Health Policy and our existing Taste of Health initiative. We took the opportunity to inform the FSA of how committed we are as a company to healthier catering.
