Andy Heads North
Andy North, Operations Director with ISS Facility Services, Food & Hospitality is no stranger to a big challenge but he is about to embark on an adventure that will see him run and cycle from Lands End up to John O’Groats completing 12 marathons and a dozen 60-mile bike rides in 12 successive days.
Along with his running partner, Dave Edwards, Andy will be traveling down from his Yorkshire base to Lands End this Friday, before starting the Soldiers Challenge, in aid of ABF, the Soldiers Charity, at 8am on Sunday Morning
Their Schedule is to run each day 8am - 1pm and cycle 2pm - 6pm. Their itinerary will be as follows:
Day 1 - Sunday 2nd May 2010
Lands End - Run to Redruth – Cycle to Callington – night stop over
Day 2 – Monday 3rd May 2010
Callington – Run to Okehampton - Cycle to Taunton – night stop over
Day 3 – Tuesday 4th May 2010
Taunton – Run to Churchill – Cycle to Monmouth – night stop over
Day 4 – Wednesday 5th May 2010
Monmouth – Run to Leominster – Cycle to Whitchurch – night stop over
Day 5 – Thursday 6th May 2010
Whitchurch – Run to Macclesfield - Cycle to Huddersfield & Leeds – night stop over & reception at Leeds town hall
Day 6 – Friday 7th May 2010
Leeds – Run to Ripon – Cycle to Durham – night stop over with reception at town hall with Mayor
Day 7 – Saturday 8th May 2010
Durham – Run with Sharon Gayter world record holder joining us - Run to Corbridge – Cycle to Jedburgh – night stop over
Day 8 – Sunday 9th May 2010
Jedburgh – Run to Edinburgh – Cycle to Kinross – night stop over
Day 9 – Monday 10th May 2010
Kinross – Run to Perth (Macbeth Experience) – Cycle to Kingussie – night stop over
Day 10 Tuesday 11th May 2010
Kingussie – Run to Tomatin – Cycle to Inverness - Cromarty Firth – night stop over
Day 11 Wednesday 12th May 2010
Cromarty Firth – Run to Lairg – Cycle to Altnaharra - Syre – night stop over
Day 12 Thursday 13th May 2010
Syre – Run to Melvich - Cycle to John O Groats

Speaking about the impending challenge Andy, pictured in characteristic Yorkshire winter gear, said: “Our motivation has been building after seeing the increasing number of lives devastated by the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Each day we plan to run a marathon distance in the morning and (then do a] 60-mile session on the bike during the afternoon and early evening.
“We have run marathons before but are not true athletes, so this really raises the bar.”
