We have looked after Cemex since 1990.  Britain’s largest roof garden, the contract includes interior landscaping plus the maintenance of extensive gardens at ground and roof level. The contract is worth in excess of £100k per annum.

The International Headquarters of Cemex boasts the largest roof garden in the UK and the second largest in Europe. Built in 1990, the gardens include 9,000m2 of formal roof garden featuring pavilions, follies, gazebos and three sunken courtyards surrounded by 10 acres of woodlands, lawns and lakes.

ISS Waterers was responsible for the original construction, and has meticulously maintained the exterior and interior landscape since that date. The garden has won numerous awards, including Principal Awards for Construction and Maintenance from the British Association of Landscape Industries and a Civic Trust Award.

The focal point to the reception area of the International Headquarters of Cemex comprises a heated swimming pool surrounded by lush tropical container planting. Installed by ISS Waterers as part of the original construction programme in 1990, the plants were selected to cope with the divergent climatic conditions throughout the building.

A diverse range of knowledge and skills are required to successfully manage this complex site.  We work with our client to enhance the environment wherever possible and, for example recycle organic green waste material produce during day to day operations. The volume of waste to be recycled plays a large factor in how the material is handled.

At Cemex small amounts of leaf waste are composted to make leaf mould.  This operation involves creating leaf mould stations at suitable locations within the site boundaries, after a year the material will have broken down to an excellent media to be used as a soil conditioner.  When we have carried out larger projects on site and created greater quantities of waste, we transfer the waste to our head office where we have a large recycling operation that is capable of dealing with high volumes of green waste.
