Derriford Hospital with its 1,285 beds is the premier
hospital within the South West of England and is the largest public building in
Devon.
Since 1995 the hospital, and its sister unit the Royal Eye Infirmary have
entrusted their hotel services to ISS Mediclean. This was an important decision
for the Trust to make as they are at the forefront of Healthcare in the South
West with a number of regional specialties which, combined, provide services for
more than half a million patients per year.
The Trust were the first in the South West to move their services to a
private contractor but their choice was vindicated when the hospital was
nominated for a National Award for the Standards of Cleanliness, whilst its
catering service has been help up as the standard to be followed, with the
patients being served from a system of cook freeze being operated from a state
of the art kitchen.
In 2001 the DTI recognised the commitment of ISS Mediclean and the Trades
Union UNISON for their joint training initiatives at the hospital with a
national recognition award.
ISS Mediclean employ more than 400 on the site, providing a manned
service over a 24 hour period, 365 days a year. The management team is headed up by
a general manager, who is responsible for maintaining the close working
relationship that we have developed with the trust representatives.
