In 2001 ISS Mediclean commenced their 30 year contract to manage non-clinical services at Hairmyres Hospital, one of the 'first wave' of NHS PFI projects, and the first in Scotland.

Working as the service providers, ISS Mediclean worked closely with the Kier/Innisfree consortium during the design, build, finance and operate scheme to ensure that the environment created in the new hospital was at the cutting edge of the delivery of patient care in this 364 bedded District General Hospital which also provides space for 52 day beds and serves a population of 200,000.

So how did the Trust choose the Kier/Innisfree consortium? Allan Skirving, the Trust's Chief Executive explains 'we took to ISS very quickly. We could tell that they weren't cowboys. We went to see one of their other operations and they left us on our own to see what we wanted, to talk to their managers and staff and get a real feel for how they ran the opeation. There was an instant rapport with their people, which hasn't changed since'.

Hairmyres Hospital. and the ISS Mediclean operation, were awarded the best run PFI Hospital Award for 2004, sponsered by Public Private Finance (PPF).
