Freezing out drugs in Surrey

Educating children at the right time about the danger of drugs is crucial. For over eight years ISS UK has supported the Surrey Ice Hockey team, the Guildford Flames, in their drugs awareness campaign. Run in conjunction with Surrey Police the ‘ISS Drugs Freeze’ programme highlights the social, physical and legal implications of drug use (primarily alcohol and cannabis). This programme is aimed at year 6 pupils and aims to educate them on the potential dangers, ensuring they are prepared as they make the move into secondary school.  The Drug Freeze Programme has approximately been attended by 73,000 children from around 400 different schools . The programme was awarded by the High Sheriff of Surrey Award in the category of Substance Misuse in July 1997 and was also recognised by the Government with the presentation of the Tackling Drugs Together award in September 1997.
