ISS and The Armed Forces Covenant

On 12th September 2013 ISS signed the Armed Forces Corporate Covenant and was the first facilities management company to do so

By signing the Corporate Covenant we committed to the principles which underpin the covenant, namely:

  • no member of the Armed Forces Community should face disadvantage in the provision of public and commercial services compared to any other citizen
  • in some circumstances special treatment may be appropriate especially for the injured or bereaved

Following this, we established close working relationships with the Recovery Career Services and the Career Transition Partnership. This lead to the creation of the ISS Pathway Programme in March 2015, which was designed to help service leavers transition into the civilian workforce and to enable ISS to fully engage with the talent pool leaving the Armed Forces every year.

To encourage Reserve service amongst its work force, ISS released a pro-Armed Forces Reservist Human Resources policy, granting an additional 10 days paid leave for all Reservist to help them meet their training commitments as well as the option for additional unpaid leave for longer deployments or training exercises. ISS has also created guides for managers and employees to help educate their employees on the benefits and realities of reserve service and reiterating our commitment to support them in their service. As a result of this work ISS was awarded the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme Silver Award at HMS Victory:

“ISS Facility Services do a huge amount of work to support the Reserves; they are a model employer and Reservist-friendly. ISS work with CTP and Service charities to advertise employment opportunities to Service leavers and offer guaranteed places on training courses they provide for employees. They also offer internships to members of the Armed Forces to better equip them for commercial employment.

ISS is also a founding partner of a multi-corporate led mentoring programme which partners service leavers with an industry specific, peer related mentor. ISS have mentors ranging for the executive board members to frontline operators in a number of sectors such as Health, Safety, Environment and Quality and Security."

Our work goes beyond employment support, in 2015 alone ISS has:

ISS corporately has actively supported 11 Armed Forces charities in 2015 including RAFBF, ABF, RNRMC, RAFA, RAF Families, Air Cadets, Gardening Leave, Hounds for Heroes, SSAFA (Big Brew), Gurkha Welfare Trust). Examples of which are:
